Hi there my name is Aly Ashton….welcome to my story and my new blog.
I have always been in work since I left school at 16 doing all sorts of jobs varying from hotel receptionist, retail, and for 10 years building printed circuit boards for relays. I had some time out from age 34 to be a stay at home mum to my two children, the early years I was just happy being at their beck and call, attending all the toddler groups and just being Mum. As the children grew I still wanted to remain at home to be there for them but started to sink into a depression, I had slowly lost my confidence and didn’t really know who I was anymore, struggling to motivate myself I felt unemployable. I wracked my brain, what was I going to do, it was a chance moment when I dropped on a Martha Stewart Youtube video, ‘how to make a bag from an old jacket’ and that was the start of my own business doing exactly that, the business has grown and to date I’ve made over 500 bespoke bags from my clients vintage jackets, I am so passionate about my leather business and feel so blessed to do what I love everyday. I am passionate about upcycling, and especially leather, be it jackets, furniture, boots. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to design a whole new life for a discarded item.
